Jigsaw Piece No. 14
Rechecking
Everything Before Launch
Please! Don't put
your site
online before every inch of it has been thoroughly checked.
And sometimes, the person who has put the site together is the
last one who should be doing the final check! You could
be just
too close to it.
Most people have a good friend or partner
who can go over something as important as this is, before the
rest of the world gets to see it.
And we're not just talking about finding the odd
grammar or spelling mistake here.
Try to use a friend who would be
one of the people who are the target market for your product.
After they've read through your site, keep
a note of any questions they ask. That means that
this hasn't been covered in your site... and it should be.
If your site visitors have questions that aren't being answered for
them on the spot... they'll simply go to the next site that was
listed in the search engine. Easy!
Then, ask your friend some questions:
|
Do they understand exactly what the product is? This
might sound like a silly question... but it's not. The
product is very clear in your mind
but that message might not have come across completely in the written word.
Do they understand what they have to do if they want to
purchase your product?
Did they notice any spelling mistakes or grammatical
errors?
Was there anything at all they didn't understand as they went
through the site? |
We also run an online business called "ProofAndCopy"... and
I was thinking of taking it off the internet because now that "Newbies"
has launched, we're really
busy... but as Neil commented... "that's just the sort of help
that some of the Newbies may be looking for". So for now... the
service is still available. We're just not sure for how long.
With so many of the sites online, you see bad
grammar, spelling mistakes, huge long paragraphs, no graphics, etc.
I bet it doesn't take long for you to leave a site like that?Would you buy a product from a site like that? "No" and "no" at a
guess!
Don't be one of those sites. If that visitor isn't happy,
for any reason,
with your site on the first visit... they're not coming back!
Get
a friend (multiple friends is even better... all that terrific feedback
before you launch) to proofread and comment, if you can. If not...
for the time being, if we're not booked out at "Proof & Copy", we'll be happy to help.
Next... step 15 - adding keywords to your
site.
