Your Website... Putting It Together!

So... if you've been following the plan, you've decided on your niche and now you have a domain name that you're happy with.  If you haven't... consider doing this as soon as you can.  You'll find it much easier to develop and put together a site that has an identity.

Now to your new website.  This is exciting!  Yes?

I remember the tremendous "kick" it gave Neil (the other half!) and I the day we managed to have our first website up and running on the internet!  We thought we'd conquered the world wide web!

Our first site was from a template.   And this is absolutely the easiest way to put your own website together.  Until you're making heaps of money and can afford the best in web designers!

I hear you.  I didn't think that we could do this either!  We had no idea about HTML and I thought that you had to know how to "write" HTML in order to have a website.  Thankfully.... not true!   But, having said that, knowing a bit about HTML has occasionally helped me with a web editing problem.  Click here for HTMLBasics.

If you despair of having the time (or don't have the inclination) to put together your own site... check out MyOwnMinisite for a quick and easy alternative.

If you're going to make a start on doing your own, the first item on the agenda is to decide on the content of your website...

"Website Content Checklist".

Print out all eight pages... fill it in

and you've got the blueprint for your site.

To put your sites together, you're going to need a web editor.  If you bought your computer with a startup package, you may already have Microsoft Front Page or Expression Web on your computer.  Check them out.  If not, download Nvu, a free editor, at CNetDownloads.

Suggestion:  While you're at CNet, you'll notice a search facility near the top of the page.  Do a search on the word freeware to see what else you might be able to use... that's not going to cost you a cent.  Not sure what you need yet?  Bookmark the site for future.

Back to putting your first website together.  As a newbie... can I suggest that you use templates.  It couldn't be simpler.  You can become adventurous with creating your own... later.

To get you started...

A set of twenty templates.  Mix and match the graphics on each... to make stacks more!  Plus 80 high quality graphics... order buttons, guarantees and more.

Have a good read through the site... it will explain a lot.  And you'll notice that Master Resell Rights are included.  MRR means that you can onsell this set of templates, and keep all the money that you make.

Yes, we're going to discuss reselling products too!  So just keep the Reseller package somewhere safe for later.  Let's stay on track...

First you need to personalize the header.  Basically this means that you'll be adding your domain name, the name of your product, or your niche and your usp (unique selling proposition).  Some people call theirs a "subhead" and don't pay it much attention, but it's of real importance in helping you to communicate the benefits that you offer potential customers.

If you've invested in the best graphics editor to help you do these things, then you've already got Photoshop.  And if it's gathering dust on your harddrive because you're having trouble understanding it...

...Here's the way to get started quickly.

And here's an excellent Photoshop forum especially for Newbies, where you can post any other specific problems and queries.  No cost to join.

No graphics editor as yet?  You're going to need one.  Gimp is very popular.  And it's also free.  Download and file it somewhere you'll remember.  We've had some problems getting through to their site... so if the link above doesn't work, go here instead.

Suggestion:  I created a folder "Design" that I put all the products and graphics to do with creating a web page or a product cover into.  To get you started... add the following subfolders to your new "Design" folder.  Add others as you need them.

  Backgrounds

  Banners

  Clipart

  eCovers

  Images

  Templates

  UsedOften

The "UsedOften" folder really comes in handy, because it contains all of the images I use at the end of our index pages, download pages, templates.  So when I need to use them it's as simple as "select all", "copy" and "paste" them into the images folder of the template I'm going to use.  Then pull them into my webpage from that folder.

Gimp shouldn't go into your Design folder because it's a program.  When you go to install it, as with other programs, it will suggest installing itself in your "Program Files" folder on your C Drive.  Let it.

Open up your new Gimp program, have a good look through it.  Go to the "features" page, click on "Introduction Page" and do the tutorials.

It's important that you learn how to use graphics and put together your own websites.

...Even if they're just basic ones.  Imagine coming across a fantastic affiliate product that has just launched in your niche and you want to get a page up on the net before everyone else does.  If you know how to use a web editor and have some templates on file... you can be "live" with your marketing, literally within minutes.

Or would you prefer to be paying a graphic designer $heaps$ to do the same thing... and wait days?  No way!

And for lots of information about graphics and websites, when you need it...
